* -- Joseph Eric Mason ; "Yeah, cause we are broken What must we do to restore Our innocence And oh the promise we adored Give us life again, cause we just wanna be whole." -We Are Broken, Paramore - - - - - - - - - - - * It was a brisk autumn morning. It was still dark, the effects of longer days coming, but the sun was just looming over the horizon line, just visible through the trees. The ground was just damp from a premature layering of frost, making the campus look as if it had been taken over by a light snowfall. Eric was jogging his everyday 8 miles through the forest just outside the campus, now cutting through the thick brush to get to the obstical course that he had been dying to try out since he had arrived from over summer - he had missed it immensely. Eric's forehead was glistening with a thin layer of sweat from the lengthy run as he made his way across the field to the vast course.
The course was just like a military one, just larger and the obstacles were harder to get through. Eric's time was good - but he could do better. Which was why he was out here, working on the course. He was running, climbing, and leaping, pushing himself. 'You can do better then that.' he mocked himself, forcing himself to push harder, harder, harder. All of his everyday frustrations, his pain, his loss. The memories that overtook his supposedly peaceful slumber, that stole away at his every thought, every word, every dream. All of it went into the course, pumping into his veins, forcing his limbs to move faster, faster, faster. He was alone, as far as he could tell, and it was much too early for many people to be up and around.

Gio couldn't sleep. He was tired but sleep just wouldn't take him. He was homesick and wished he could go home and couldn't do much but toss and turn in the dull light of day break thinking of his home, his family. He wanted to go back but knew he would never be accepted there. He was quickly getting sick of his cycle and gave up, stepping out of his bed and onto the cold wooden floor and changed into something he could wear outside. Hair a mess, clothes crumpled he walked through the morning haze. A loaf of bread was in his hands which he'd stolen from the kitchen as he wondered around just about anywhere and ended up in the obsticale course. Not like he was expecting anyone here as he heard the eery thump, thump of white bone claws with decayed skin pulled back over the creatures paws, or what once were paws. He smiled a little at the creature and crouched down. It was, or more had been an Alsation. It had only three legs with one of it's front legs gone, the fur had fallen off in tufts and decaying skin was shown to light. It's eyes had lost all colour and made a sickening sucking sound as the dried eyeballs moved in their sockets. The thick smell of decay was in the air as Gio offered the bread to the animal and smiled a little as it opened it's mangled jaw which had been damaged from the car which had killed it, some loose teeth hanging out the side as it chewed
"There, that's better now isn't it?" Gio smiled talking to the dog, indulging in something that came natural for him, but he found shameful as hell as, like a guilty little secret. So you can imagine his surprise when someone burst into the clearing running like a bat out of hell. Gio yelp and fell back a little looking at the knew comer the dog raising it's decayed head and growling

Eric was almost finished with one run through the course, when he caught wind of a horrible smell. The smell of death, decaying flesh and bones, the scent wrapping around the area. Eric stopped mid-run, and looked around. Everything seemed normal, at a first glance. Eric saw a boy around his age, looking as if he had fallen to the ground, then the... thing... that was obviously what was whatever the horrid smell was from. It was in a protective stance, almost as if it were ready to pounce. Eric kept his calm, not really too startled. If he had learned anything at this school it was that anything can happen, anything is possible.
Eric walked over to the boy slowly, going to check and see if he was alright. Before moving too close, a smirk overtook his lips. "Hey, this thing won't kill me or anything, right?" he called out, his voice travelling to the surrounding trees.

Gio looked up at the other and pushed himself back to his feet wiping them on his already damaged and mucky jeans with rips in each knee. His dark eyes over looked the other male as the dog growled and barely heard what the other said looking terribly pale behind tanned skin. He shook his head as the fact the other had spoken English finally occurred to him.
"O-of course not." Gio said softly stuttering a little as he spoke and crossed an arm over his chest in an almost child like manor and looked at the ground with dark eyes "I didn't think anyone was around at this hour, I'm sorry" he said meekly, clearly embarrassed as though the other had walked in on something intimate, Gio was not at all comfortable with his abilities being the new student on the school grounds

Eric shrugged as he walked over to the other boy, who was straightening himself out. The thing was forgotten, now that he didn't have to worry about being harmed by it. The smell was still potent in the air, but Eric overcame it easily."Oh, it's no problem. I've seen worse then a zombie animal at this school. You get used to it. Nice power, though," Eric told him, smiling. It really was a great power. Well, it was better then his own, the one that kills innocents, or at least makes them severely sick. Once he reached the other boy, he stuck out his hand in greeting, and introduced himself. "I'm Joseph Mason," his face contorted into a grimace as he said his first name, but it returned to a smile before he continued. "But, please, call me Eric."

Gio rubbed his arm and bit his bottom lip at the other came over. He couldn't help smiling a little as the other spoke however And looked up at him "Seriously, there's worse?" he asked paling a little at the thought and shook his head, realising he should be just glad the other didn't run screaming from him. "Might seen a nice ability until you wake up with road kill crawling all over your room in the night" Gio pointed out with a small smirk and a thick Italian accent but his English was still fluent if you could over look the accent.
Gio grinned at the other and took his hand enthusiastically "Well I'm Giovanni, but just call me Gio, I hate my full name, makes me sound old" he grinned and let go of his hand "So what is it you can do that got you lumped in here?"

Eric looked up at the rising sun, with barely any light shining through the trees and over the hills. He smiled slightly before replying to Gio, returning his eyes in his general direction. "Yeah, there's worse," Eric told him completely truthful. Hell, in his opinion, his power was worse then that. Killing people or bringing back the dead? Killing is definitely worse, in many peoples books. As Gio asked what his power was, Eric looked down to the ground, slightly embarrassed. He doesn't like letting people in on his secrets, but he had just walked in on Gio's, and he obviously doesn't like anyone knowing either. Once again, Eric's eyes drifted back up as he decided that he would tell him. He didn't really think that Gio would scream, or run, or be frightened. "Uh, well, it's hard to explain. But, when I get angry or upset, I sort of let off this poison, and it kills normal humans. Well, after being around it for a consecutive 8 hours, I believe. Less then 8 hours, then end up really sick," he tried to explain, not really sure if he made any sense at all. "Does that make any sense?" he asked, his face contorted in almost a confused expression.

Gio smiled at the other "Well I doubt there are many that smell worse than this though" Gio shrugged and took out another lump of bread feeling it to the animal. Gio glanced up at the brightening sky and sighed "We should be heading back soon probably" he muttered and yawned curling his arms behind his back and stretching.
Gio listened to the other as he explained his ability and paused before nodding "Yeah that makes sense...just remind me never to piss you off..." He said and shot the other a nervous smile and patted his shoulder "Good thing I'm just annoying at hell" he winked and nudged him "Stop looking so pained we're all freaks here, just try not to poison me and we're good, or give me a little heads up when you go all evil flower...evil flower? hmm, I'll come up with a better analogy later" he grinned "I can also talk to the dead which is a great way to cheat in tests I'll tell you and when I raise the dead they have to do as I say. But they always rot" he shrugged

Eric smiled sheepishly at Gio, feeling somewhat guilty for how he acts all the time. He knew he seemed like a downer most of the time, but seriously, if you killed your parents, even if it were by accident, wouldn't you be sort of upset too? At least he was somewhat over it. Well, as over it that you could be.
"You don't seem to be too annoying," he grinned, a teasing tone laced throughout his voice. "And, please, don't call me evil flower. Seriously. Shitty analogy, sorry to tell you." Eric started laughing, just thinking of his power being called 'Evil Flower'. "You get to cheat off of dead people? You must have all A's," he told him, only somewhat kidding.

"Well clearly you haven't known me for very long than" Gio teased the other as he said he wasn't annoying and shook his head before bursting into a fit of what can only be described as giggles when the other mentioned the new nickname Gio had come up with for him.
"I dunno actually I'm starting to think it kinda suits" Gio grinned happily "Come on wouldn't you just love to walk into a bar fight and shout "BEHOLD MY EVIL FLOWER POWER!" Oh I think we just got you your catch phrase, now all you need is a cape" he winked, still laughing "Still think I'm not annoying?"
"Ah I don't do too bad, I try sometimes to do my own work but yeah, a lot of the time I cheat." Gio nodded with a grin

"Still, Evil Flower? Really? Are you serious?" Eric questioned, still laughing. He left the annoying comment slide, deciding to leave it unanswered. As Gio went on and told him about getting a cape, or even having a catchphrase, he just laughed and shook his head at the ridiculousness of it. "I really don't want to wear a cape, thanks. And you still don't seem to be too bad. Annoying, somewhat, yeah. But you're bearable." He was still laughing as he looked down to his watch, seeing that it was almost seven in the morning, and the sun was now just visible over the trees. [/blockquote]

"Completely, that's what I'm gonna call you from now on Eric." Gio winked as the dog finished the bread and he sighed and waved his hand. The dog began to walk off into the trees and back to where ever it had been buried leaving rotting flesh, some fur and a number of undesirable insect life in it's wake.
"I think the cape would suit you, course it would have to be bright green with a black flower on the back" he grinned and laughed as the other called him annoying "Well just don't take my brothers approach and beat the living shit out of me the minute I do become annoying please" he shrugged and yawned again "What are you doing up at this hour anyway?" he asked curiously as he turned to make tracks for the school hoping the other would follow

"Yeah, because I definitely want to walk around with a bright green cape," Eric laughed out, bypassing the fact that the decaying animal had just walked off, leaving remains in various places. As Gio was talking about his brothers way of getting him to shut up, Eric just laughed. He didn't mean to be rude, he just found it funny for no particular reason. When he asked him what he was doing up, he just shrugged, and looked around, back at the obstacle course and into the woods. "I like to get up and run, normally around 8 miles, and then train on the obstacle course," he shrugged, "It's like my morning ritual. I do it every day." Eric was very modest about the statement, it didn't seem like much to him, as he had been doing it since he started to discover his powers. As Gio started walking back, he just followed, deciding that he had done enough for the day.[/blockquote]

A figure had been watching the obstacle course. She never went through it, nor would she ever. She was afraid because she was not built for it, and that scared her. Now, with her broken wing, it was fate that she shouldn't go in...but watching these two people in there having a great time made her jealous and jealousy was not a good emotion for a angel.
She stepped into the place, shaking her head for being stupid but kept on going. She knew it was a bad idea due to her broken wing, but did she care? No. Her amber brown hair was in ripples around her heart-shaped face. Almond-shaped amber gold eyes danced with mischievous. Her full, luscious rosy pink lips where turned up into a small smile. Her fair honey cream skin was flushed slightly thanks to the wind. Her small form was wrapped in comfy clothes. She had a gold turtle neck sweater, loose fighting black pants, and gold and black puma's. She wore no jewelry and no make-up beside a light line of clear strawberry scented lip-gloss. Large, silky white wings where tucked against her back, yet one was wrapped tightly in a bandage, the bone having been set straight again.
She began to singing softly trying to comfort herself. Her words so beautiful 'You used to captivate me by your resonating light Now, I'm bound by the life you left behind Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams Your voice it chased away all the sanity in me' yet she stopped when she heard the laughter, louder the before, that echoed through the place. She missed a step, then kept on walking. It would just be students at the academy...not someone who would hurt her, she hoped. Her breath caught in her throat as she finally appeared from the shadows a feet in front of them. She bit one of her lips, ignoring the unbearable smell, and tried to figure out who and what they where.
She brought one hand up to call the element ice. It was just a precaution, knowing she was vunerable due to the lack of flight. She was rigid, muscles taunt knowing that if she had to run, she would. Her eyes where a bit wide, but not by much. She knew better then to give away much.

Gio highfived Eric "The ladies will be all over you in it, or the guys whatever your into" Gio shrugged and laughed a little "Too bad you can't fly though, that would make it perfect. Unless you can fly of course!" He grinned, though was terrified of heights himself, had he that power he'd never use it, last time he was on a plane he'd a damned panic attack. Gio didn't find it rude that the other laughed, in fact it didn't bother him in the least and he just shrugged it off
"shiiiit! Eight miles! Is that even possible?!" Gio asked agog "I can barely manage the one whenever I'm bothered to try" he laughed and then crossed his arms over his chest "Damn I forgot how cold it was at this hour" he muttered shivering, far too used to the hot temperatures of Italy that the slightest temperature flux had him reaching for a jumper Gio heard a soft sound of singing and glanced behind him at the girl "Wings huh..." he muttered before just looking back the way he was going, managing to trip over a root as he did so and fall forwards into the dirt "Ow..." he muttered pushing himself back up "I fall over too often..."
